U.S. House Democrats have asked Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig to review the tax status of the Family Research Council (FRC). The group has met IRS requirements to qualify as a church, but House Democrats say the FRC is an advocacy organization that shouldn’t be tax exempt. They argue that many political groups have abused the tax code by claiming and obtaining church status. Unlike some nonprofits, churches aren’t required to file Form 990 annually and they generally operate without much government oversight. Democrats are urging the IRS to revamp its church-status review process to prevent erroneous approvals. Call or visit our website for more information! www.mjscpa.com/
