The U.S. House of Representatives Appropriations Subcommittee has approved the fiscal 2023 Financial Services and General Government bill, including IRS funding that is $1 billion above the FY 2022 level. Subcommittee Chair Mike Quigley (D-IL) said this “continues restoring the IRS from draconian cuts this agency has suffered” for nearly a decade. Among other goals, the increase is meant to improve enforcement activities across all tax brackets. It will also “support better customer service by reducing wait times and increasing assistance to people trying to pay their taxes.” Senate Democrats have yet to present their FY 2023 spending bills.
